Amritsar: A radical Sikh student outfit on Saturday demanded that June 6 be declared as a state holiday in Punjab to honour the killing of Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale during 1984 operation Blue Star at the Golden Temple.

By declaring June 6 as a state holiday, the government will pay befitting homage to Shaheed Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, Shaheed Bhai Amrik Singh, Shaheed General Shubeg Singh and countless other Sikhs who died in June 1984 protecting Sikh rights and defending Sri Akal Takhat Sahi, All India Sikh Students Federation said.
