Dehradun: A day ahead of a meeting of the state Cabinet, government employees in Uttarakhand hit the streets in Dehradun staging demonstration to mount pressure on the government to withdraw proposed reservation in promotions to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

Holding placards, the protesters took out a procession under the banner of Uttarakhand Adhikari Karmachari and Shikshak Sangharsh Morcha and demanded scrapping of an ex- cadre created by the state government with a view to granting reservation in promotion to SC/ST employees in government jobs.

Government employees were on strike for nearly a fortnight last month demanding scrapping of a government order for creation of an ex-cadre.

They had postponed their agitation after an assurance from Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna that the government order in this regard will be reviewed at a meeting of the state Cabinet to be held after conclusion of the Tehri Lok Sabha bypoll.
