New Delhi: Setting an example for others to follow amidst the political uproar created by Anna Hazare's Jan Lokpal Bill, the Delhi Cabinet on Wednesday approved the proposal for bringing the Chief Minister's post under the Lokpal ambit.

The Cabinet meeting led by Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit passed the proposal thereby becoming the first one to pass such a resolution.

Dikshit took a U-turn on her statements made earlier and supported the Lokpal Bill. She earlier had stated that the government had various investigative agencies to monitor corruption but changed her statements based on the present situation.

“To ensure a corruption free society, it is important to bring the CM post under the Lokpal ambit. We have encouraged transparency and accountability in our government,” Dikshit said.

“We have taken constructive steps to ensure a better working environment with the help of Information Technology,” she added.

Lauding the efforts of the Centre and the members of the civil society, Dikshit expressed her hope that the stalemate regarding the Bill would end soon.

“The Union Government and members of the civil society have started constructive interaction,” she said.

Dikshit also appreciated the efforts of the Centre and the Civil Society for formulation of a consensus based draft of an effective and strong Lokpal Bill.
