Earlier in March, a Delhi court had levied a fine of Rs 2,500 on former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and his AAP colleague Manish Sisodia succeeding which they failed to appear in the defamation case.

The court had granted bail to AAP leaders Prashant Bhushan and Shazia Ilmi after they gave an assurance that they will appear in the court on every hearing.

The court had on April 24 warned Kejriwal and three other AAP leaders that it would initiate coercive process if they fail to appear before it on May 24 in the criminal defamation complaint.

The suit was filed against Kejriwal and others following Kejriwal’s press conference on May 15, 2013 in which the AAP convener said that Amit Sibal had appeared in the Apex Court for telecom firm Vodafone while his father was the Communications Minister.
