New Delhi: Demanding appropriate compensation for their acquired land, farmers from rural Delhi gathered at Barwala on Saturday and halted the ongoing construction work of government flats and chased away the labourers from the site.

The protesting farmers threatened that the movement against the acquisition of fertile land would get more intense if the state government and Delhi Development Authority (DDA) would not take action in this regard soon.

The farmers said the further strategy for the movement would be decided at ‘Maha Panchayat’ scheduled on Sunday.

Also, Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) Chief Ajit Singh's son Chowdhury Jayant Singh addressed the agitating farmers and assured them to raise their concern in the Parliament.

Notably, representatives of 360 villages, women and elderly people were gathered to mark their protest against the land acquisition.
