New Delhi: The main opposition party, BJP, has called for a condolence meeting at Jantar Mantar on Monday to pay tribute to the 23-year-old gang rape victim who succumbed to her injuries on Saturday in a Singapore hospital.

Top BJP leaders including Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Arun Jaitley and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Shusma Swaraj will offer tribute to 23-year-old braveheart who died after battling for life for 13 days after being brutally gang-raped by six men in a moving bus.

On Sunday, the BJP had questioned the secret and immediate cremation of the victim in the capital.

BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said, "Performing the last rites in a hush-hush manner was avoidable. We understand the right of privacy. But this raises lot of curious questions."

The cremation plans were kept closely-guarded till the last moment as police apprehended a large gathering may cause law and order problems.

Authorities also wanted the last rites to be performed at 6.30 am but their plan did not materialize, as Hindu traditions did not allow cremation before sunrise.

At 7.30 am, the father of the victim lit the funeral pyre in the presence of her brothers, relatives and others.
