New Delhi: Amid high pain and agony in the Safdarjung hospital, the 23-year-old paramedic student remembered the names of those who brutally raped and assaulted her on that ill-fated night of December 16.

The braveheart, while giving her statement in the presence of magistrate under section 164 of CrPc, scribbled their names as Mukesh, Ram Singh, Akshay and Vinay on the sheet of a paper.

The victim heard their names during the assault in the moving bus.

Apart from their names, she wrote other things such as ‘rod se, loha, wood and Kuch logon ko dekha’. The magistrate signed the statement given by the braveheart.

In her statement, she told that she boarded the bus with her male friend at Munirka Bus stand. There were five to seven passengers in the bus. One of them collected Rs 20 from them as bus fare. She told that the incident took place around 9:30 pm in the night.

Before registering her statement, doctors at Safdarjung hospital asked the magistrate to be calm and patient. They asked the magistrate to ask only necessary questions as she was in critical condition and unable to speak.

The victim girl gave her statement twice in the matter. First, she gave her statement in front of SDM and then in front of the magistrate. There are huge similarities between the statement given by the girl and her male friend.

According to the hospital records, the girl and her male friend were brought to the Safdarjung hospital around 11:30 pm in the night.  But she was shifted to ICU around 5:00 am in the morning.

The Delhi Police tried to examine the bite marks on victim’s body but due to unavailability of adequate facilities there, police failed in its attempt.

On December 16, the physiotherapist student was gang-raped by six men in the moving private bus. Her male friend accompanying her was beaten up and assaulted by the accused. Then they both were thrown out of the moving bus after 40-minute ordeal. The victim breathed her last on December 29 in Singapore’s Mount Elizabeth Hospital.
