New Delhi: The heinous gang rape of 23-year-old paramedical student in a moving bus has forced women to think of their safety measures. This is evident from the fact that large numbers of women are making a beeline for gun licences.

Just two weeks after the horrific incident rocked the entire nation, the licensing department of Delhi Police has received over 274 applications from women, while the department had received a total of 500 applications in 2011.

Apart from this, the department has received more than 1000 calls from working women and parents seeking details on how to procure gun licences.

The women in national capital are now concerned about their safety and trying their best to upgrade themselves in order to face the challenges. According to a report, there is at least 20 percent surge in self-defence classes for women.

The women of Delhi are of the view that the law and order situation of the city has forced them to take such steps as they feel insecurity while walking in public places.
