New Delhi: In a bid to attract voters prior to Municipal elections, the Delhi government is going to announce a number of development programmes for poor.

The sops likely to be announced include availing the people ownership rights in rehabilitation colonies, building concrete houses for those living in slums, besides giving permission for sale and purchase of unauthorized colonies established on private lands.

The government wants to take a big part of capital roads from MCD and hand it over it to public works department to boost its vote bank.

Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dixit and Urban Development Minister Rajkumar Chauhan’s meeting on Friday with Union Urban Development Minister Kamal Nath is being viewed from the angle of government’s preparedness for forthcoming municipal polls.

Since issues of poor people are directly connected with the Central government’s plans, Sheila Dixit wants to remove all possible hindrances before the elections.

Those living in slums, rehabilitation and illegal colonies are traditionally considered as the vote bank of Congress, it is not surprising if the government shows its alertness in implementing all projects especially related to them.

More than 10,000 houses have already been constructed for poor people living in slums and many more more are in line to be constructed.
