The decision has come after several complaints were received by the Power Department regarding fast running meters and inflated electricity bills. The service will be provided free of cost to the consumers.

"For getting the meter tested, a consumer is required to submit an application with details including contact number and address along with copy of a recent bill to Deputy Commissioners’ offices. The application may be submitted regardless of the jurisdiction," said a government official.

Out of all the applications received, 10,000 meters will be randomly selected for checking by an independent agency and based on the results, further action will be taken by Department of Power, the official added.
