New Delhi: The Delhi government has expressed concern over the slow pace of making Unique Identification (UID) numbers (Aadhar) and appealed to the Centre for establishing more UID centres.

According to sources, the state government would start making UID card of students in schools, if the Central government approves the demand of more UID centres.

At present, there are 444 centres for making UID cards whereas 3,482 centres are needed to meet the target.

Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit in a recent Cabinet meeting came to know about the pace of making UID numbers when she asked the Revenue Department.
According to the Revenue Department, 50 UID numbers are being generated by one machine in a day leading to a huge rush of people at the UID centres.
