New Delhi: Following the dip in sales of beer, the Delhi government is planning to set up micro breweries in more than two dozen locations across the national capital including airport and five star hotels.

Interestingly, the excise department has claimed it as a medium to make Delhi a world class city.

Sources informed that the excise department presented two proposals to the Cabinet, which includes opening of liquor shop at airport and starting micro breweries. The Cabinet gave permission to open shops in the capital, while setting up micro breweries has been put on hold.

However, in order to accomplish the task of setting up 25 micro breweries in the city, the excise department has found solutions to the hurdles created by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) which has cited certain provisions under Master Plan 2021 that does not allow micro breweries concept.

According to excise officials, the master plan prohibits establishment of the pollution generating factories in the city but micro breweries do not produce chemicals that can be harmful for the environment.

If the sources are to be believed, the small breweries in the city can also receive green signal.
