Delhi: The growing number of crimes against women in moving vehicles in the national capital has jolted Delhiites as well as the Sheila Dikshit government which has taken a step forward to monitor Delhi Traffic Police.

In order to maintain better coordination between the Transport Department and Traffic Police, the government has proposed a plan of Delhi Urban Mass Transit Authority (DUMTA) of 2009.

This will help in preparing some effective plans for traffic in the national capital. According to the Delhi Transport Minister Ramakant Goswami, Delhi government will hold a meeting with the Central Government to implement this scheme.

Goswami said the gang rape in the capital on December 16 last year and the incident of eve-teasing of the minor girl in the moving DTC bus are the results of lack of coordination between the Traffic Police and the Transport Department. The police recovered the buses but didn’t report the Transport Department about this.

DUMTA will ensure the maintenance of roads, keeping control over engineers, traffic police and transport department.
