New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Thursday acquitted two convicts in the 1996 Lajpat Nagar blast case and converted the death sentence of another one to life term.

The two death row convicts who were acquitted are - Mohd Ali Bhatt and Mirza Nissar Hussain. The court commuted death sentence of one of the convicts Mohammedd Naushad, to life imprisonment. It also upheld the life term awarded to fourth convict Javed Ahmed Khan.The verdict came on the appeals filed by the four convicts.

A stolen Maruti car laden with explosives went off on May 21, 1996 evening in the crowded central market at Lajpat Nagar. The blasts had killed 13 people and injured 39 others.
