New Delhi: In yet another horrific incident of violence against women in national capital, a five-year-old girl, who was allegedly raped several times and badly mutilated by neighbour, is battling for her life.

According to reports, the five-year-old victim is likely to be transferred to Delhi’s Lok Nayak Jai Prakash hospital as the nature of her injuries are very severe.

She is currently being treated at East Delhi's Swami Dayanand hospital. A 200 ml bottle and pieces of candle were inserted into the private parts of the five-year-old rape victim, a doctor said on Friday, adding that he had "never seen such a case".

"Upon examination, we found a 200 ml bottle and two or three pieces of candle inserted into her private parts.

This is the first time that I have seen such barbarism with a five-year-old," RK Bansal, medical superintendent, Swami Dayanand Hospital said.

"There were injuries on her lips and cheeks and bruise marks on her neck, suggesting that attempts were made to strangle her. The blood pressure was way below normal, and she had fever when she was admitted," the doctor said.

"The child's condition is very critical. She is in ICU right now and will be under observation for the next 24-48 hours," he said.

The girl was abducted from outside her house in east Delhi's Gandhi Nagar on April 15 and raped repeatedly, police said. The girl was rescued when her family members said they heard her screams emanating from the accused's flat on Wednesday evening, police said.

The accused, believed to be in his 30s, lived on ground floor of the building and kept the girl hostage there for two days.

The victim's family alleged that police were reluctant in filing a rape case and they acted late in locating her. Girl's parents alleged that the police built pressure on them not to raise their voice. Meanwhile, the incident sparked outrage in the national capital with Aam Aadmi Party workers  taking to streets in protest against the brutalisation of the five-year-old.

The latest incident has brought back the memories of brutal gang-rape and assault of a medical student on moving bus on the night of December 16 last year in Delhi.
