New Delhi: Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has collected more than Rs 25 lakh in one year by issuing challans to joyriders who are caught travelling in the women coaches. Large part of the money was collected from the travellers of the Metro’s yellow line (Jahangirpuri-Huda City Center).

According to the information collected under Right to Information Act (RTI), DMRC issued challans to 11, 731 male travellers last year. In which 3,697 were those who were travelling in women coaches while 1370 challans were issued to people for creating chaos in the metro. DMRC had also issued challans to 486 drunken travellers.

2894 challans were issued for spitting in the metro station whereas 1717 other challans were issued to the people found loitering on the platforms while 1107 other travellers were charged for damaging the metro property.

A fine of Rs 250 is charged from those found travelling in women coaches whereas Rs 200 is the fine for violating metro laws.
