New Delhi: Having faced problems in phase-I and phase-II of Delhi Metro Project in connection with the rechristening stations, the metro authorities are cautious while expanding the metro lines in phase-III. They have invited suggestions from people for names of the new metro stations falling in their respective areas.

It is being perceived that the roles of local representatives and Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) would be crucial in deciding the names of stations.

According to the DMRC officials, if the local representatives request for the changing the names of metro stations, their suggestions would be welcomed and added that a committee is going to be formed in this context.

Notably, after the expansion of metro lines under phase-I and phase-II, several requests had come seeking changes in names of metro stations. The masses had alleged that the DMRC officials had named stations without taking locals into consideration following which their areas had lost identities and commuters were unaware of the stations’ names.

According to sources, the Delhi government recently gave its nod for the expansion of metro-line under phase-III and the work would begin after the approval of the Union Cabinet.
