A DMRC statement said the green buildings will have specific provisions for the conservation of energy as well as better CO2 saving, water saving and waste management arrangements.

The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), a body involved in promoting the green building concept in India, will also issue guidelines for designing the station structures as green buildings.
Under the third phase of Metro network expansion, which will be completed by the end of 2016, the DMRC will construct a total of 90 new Metro stations.

Several cities across the country have decided to implement Metro systems. Apart from Kolkata and Delhi, the Metro systems are also operational at Bengaluru and Mumbai.
Many other cities such as Jaipur, Kochi, Chennai, Hyderabad, Lucknow and Pune will also have Metro corridors in the years to come.
