New Delhi: Fifty-three child labourers, mostly trafficked from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, were rescued in a joint raid from Mangolpuri and Sultanpuri areas of outer Delhi on Tuesday.

A joint raid was conducted in shoe and jeans manufacturing factories in the outer Delhi area by officials of Labour Department, Delhi Police and child rights NGO Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA).

Rakesh Sengar, National Secretary, BBA told the reporters “The rescued children mostly belong to the age group of 14 years. They were forced to work for 14 to 16 hours without pay and suitable living conditions.”

Ajay Kumar, SDM, Saraswati Vihar said that the owners of seven manufacturing factories have been arrested in this regard.

Kumar told the reporters that the children would be sent to the rehabilitation centre after their medical examinations. He added, “The required action is being taken against the factory owners.”
