New Delhi: Delhi Police on Saturday drew sharp criticism from various quarters for registering case against Zee News which revealed the identity of the December 16 rape victim by carrying out an interview of her friend.

Eminent lawyer Ram Jethmalani said, “By now we should have known what is happening. What is the Delhi Police Commissioner doing there? He is doing funny things, but what has to be done he is not doing! As the head of the police force he should have known what to do.”

“I think an inquiry should be held to find out the name of responsible official for the delay on that night…Delhi Police should be directly held responsible. By now, we all know that the police cannot be trusted. They are only trying to save their own back,” he added.

Kiran Bedi said, “Accountability starts from the top; not just who is directly or indirectly responsible. It should start from the Home Minister, the Home Secretary… Usha Mehra’s Commission will be able to give a better picture on who should be held accountable for it.”
