New Delhi: As the summer woes returned to the national capital, Delhi High Court on Wednesday ordered the Urban Shelter Development Board and the state government to provide drinking water and other basic amenities in the shelter homes.

The court also directed the Delhi Government to provide for the third Shelter Home for pregnant women within four months.  Two other shelter homes are situated at Jahangirpur and Sarai Rohilla.

A bench comprising Chief Justice Deepak Mishra and Justice Sanjeev Khanna ordered while hearing the petition filed on behalf of the Hanuman Colony residents, which stated that New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has constructed a shelter home in the Hanuman Road Park. But, the shelter home lacked basic necessities like toilets due to which the inmates are forced to use nearby areas, hence, creating problem for the local residents.

Hearing the plea the court has asked the NDMC to shift the shelter home within three weeks.

The HC also directed NDMC to build at least 2 toilets in each shelter home and make necessary arrangements of drinking water, electricity and other facilities with the help of Delhi government and Jal Board.

Delhi HC has invited suggestions from all parties in order to develop strategic policies regarding it.
