New Delhi: The Delhi Traffic police has issued a circular to the vehicle owners asking them to keep the original copies of their driving licenses and pollution certificates to avoid prosecution. At the same time, the police also made it clear that the photocopies of all the documents will also be acceptable during the random check by the traffic cops.

The police said that now the vehicle owners will not be required to show the original papers of other documents.

According to the police, this move will help the vehicle owners to keep at bay the errant police officials who allegedly extort money on the pretext of showing original papers.

While issuing the circular, Delhi’s Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Satyendra Garg told reporters, “Often drivers complain of being harassed by the traffic police cops even after they show photocopies of the insurance papers and registration certificates (RCs). But now they will not be required to show original copies of all the documents other than driving licenses and pollution check certificates.”

“Women and senior citizens often face problems if they fail to show originals and in these cases the vehicle is seized on the spot. Owners will now have to submit the RCs and insurance papers in case of vehicle theft. But if a person loses original papers, he/she could not claim the insurance benefits. Therefore, considering such cases, this provision has been included.”

In case of any kind of inconvenience vehicle owners or drivers can register a complaint with the Delhi Traffic Police by sending an SMS to 56767or can make a call on the helpline number No 25844444.
