New Delhi: Delhi, a dream destination for many, who travel from all parts of India, to make big in the city are facing a tedious situation due to the impeding transport facilities. Thousands of commuters face several hardships due to the unavailability and limited frequency of transport in the national capital. Be it the autos, taxis or buses, none come to be of any use for people who want to cover distances in Delhi-NCR region.

Pradeep Kumar who travelled from Patna to New Delhi with his family faced a lot of discomfort after arriving at the New Delhi railway station. He wanted to go to Rajnagar Colony in Ghaziabad but was unable to do so due to the unavailability of any transport. Either none of the autos were willing to go or they asked for arbitrary rent. After waiting for several hours finally one taxi agreed to drop him at UP border from where he had to take another ride to go home.

Kumar had to face this herculean journey in two installments to cover 32 kilometers.

Thousands of people face similar problems each day, while visiting the cities of NCR.
Scenario is such that after 9 pm people have to think a hundred times to travel from New Delhi railway station to Ghaziabad or other neighborhoods like Greater Noida, Bahadurgarh and Faridabad.

Direct public transport non-existent: The services are simply non-existent. Even no auto and taxi services are available to reach the destined area.

Traffic could not be facilitated: 25 years after the formation of the National Capital Region, the state government has been unable to make the interstate traffic facility easily feasible to the commuters.

After law enforcement in 1985, the agreement which took place among the four states- Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan in December 2008 could not be laid down on practical terms.

However, Environment Pollution Control Authority (EPCA) Chairman Bhure Lal has refuted the claims by saying that the situation has now become much easier. “People who have got the permit registration of different NCR regions do not have to face any trouble, he said.

However, these promises are just on papers but the ground reality is something else.

Leaving the Delhi airport route, there is no other region in the city for which any government transport is available during night. Although, Delhi metro till 11pm makes it bit convenient for all those who want to reach Noida or Gurgaon.

Bribes affect too: Delhi’s black and yellow cab driver Ravi Kumar and Kailash Gupta complained that inspite of having UP permit the state police give them troubles for bribes. This is the key reason that taxi drivers do not get ready to take the passengers.

Promotion of multi-model: According to Indian Foundation of Transport Research and Training Coordinator SP Singh, the multi-model transportation needs better promotion to improve the Delhi-NCR transport facilities. For this Delhi metro has to be linked with Greater Noida, Sonepat, Bahadurgarh and Ghaziabad. Beside this shuttle services have to be introduced to connect more and more cities. Even several platforms have to be constructed to improve the mobility in the Delhi-NCR region.
