Beijing: Heavy fog in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur region has forced at least 87 flights to be delayed or diverted from the provincial capital Urumqi.

As many as 25 inbound flights from Beijing, Dalian and Chengdu to Urumqi were diverted to nearby alternate airports as heavy fog disrupted air traffic over the Urumqi International Airport on Sunday, an agency reported.

A total of 62 outbound flights were delayed. Traffic at the airport later resumed after the fog dispersed in the afternoon. Foggy weather was also seen in other parts of China on Sunday, affecting road and air traffic.
