New Delhi: The Department of Public Enterprises (DPE) on Thursday said it has conducted its first skill development programme in Bhopal for improving skills of employees of state-level PSUs.

"The department has developed the skill development/ training programme for the executives and employees of State Level Public Sector Enterprises (SLPEs) to improve their skills and thus enhancing the overall productivity of these enterprises," it said.

While the focus of the training would be on upgrading the skills of key personnel, it will also include institution building, the release said.

The combination of the two would help achieve excellence in the overall performance of SLPEs, it said.

In May, Minister of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Praful Patel had written to the state Chief Ministers on sharing best practices of Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) with state PSUs.

The department plans to conduct similar programmes in various states.

The scheme would be implemented during the 12th Five-Year Plan starting from the current fiscal. Under the scheme, the fund will be given as grant-in-aid to institutes/bodies/CPSEs which will be responsible for organising the training programme, it added.

At present, there are over 800 operating SLPEs in the country.
