Lucknow: In a new twist to Uttar Pradesh Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Dr BP Singh, murder case, the state government on Tuesday dragged the name of Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr Y S Sachan, attributing internal rivalry and financial irregularities in the Family Welfare Department to the murder.

UP Cabinet Secretary Shashank Shekhar Singh’s claim about the involvement of Deputy Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr YS Sachan in the CMO murder case has also cemented police suspicion.

Singh acknowledged that the deceased CMO was fully aware of the involvement of the Deputy CMO in numerous financial irregularities of the Family Welfare Department. “Dr BP Singh, after joining the CHCs and PHCs spotted various irregularities and asked for clarification from the concerned authorities. The documents and unpaid bills recovered from his house also tell the same story”, he said.

Saying that the police investigation is moving into the right direction, Cabinet Secretary said, soon important clues will expose the suspect in Dr BP Singh murder case.

The forensic science laboratory report proves that same weapon was used in the murder of Dr B P Singh and his predecessor Dr Vinod Arya, he revealed.

“In the wake of the murder investigation, role of Dr Sachan appears to be quite suspicious. But only further findings in this regard will be able to give the final clue,” Cabinet Secretary said.

According to the reports, Dr Sachan was twice on police remand, but was not questioned due to poor health on both the occasions. CMO Singh was gunned down in posh Gomti Nagar area in the state capital on April 2 last year while taking a morning stroll.

Hoping that the case would be solved soon, the Cabinet Secretary said the UP government has enhanced the reward price by Rs 50,000 to obtain information about Sudhakar Pandey, the absconding suspect in the murder of Dr Vinod Arya.
