The Amarnath yatra is set to begin from June 24 and the devotees are advised to check their bags before they mark their pilgrimage to the holy shrine.

•    Those planning to go for the tough Amarnath yatra must develop a habit of walking 4-5 kilometres in morning and evening few days before the yatra.

•    Since the pilgrims have to travel 14,800 metres above the sea level, they must be healthy.

•    The devotees must carry woolens, small umbrella, wind-cheater, sleeping bag, water-proof shoes, raincoat, walking stick, cap, torch, gloves, jacket, warm socks and trouser.

•    The women devotees must avoid wearing sari during the journey as there may be heavy snowfall, sudden rainfall and the temperature may dip to 5 degree Celsius below the normal. They can opt for salwar-kurta, track suit or casuals.

•    The amarnath yatra is a tough journey therefore it is advised not to take young kids on the yatra.

•    The pilgrims taking services of the ponies, dandees or labourers must ensure they are registered and carry their identity cards and accompany them during the yatra.

•    Soon after reaching Pahalgam and Baltal, the pilgrims must keep their clothes, food-items and other belongings in a water-proof bag as unexpected rain may leave you drenched.
