For involving consumers in checking theft of electricity the DHBVN and the Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam have revived the 'Theft Informer Scheme', under which a person giving information of theft of electricity and the employees who detect the theft will be given a certain percentage of the realised amount.
Under this scheme, the Nigam has so far received information of 715 cases of theft of electricity.
On detecting the information, the informer may claim Rs 500 immediately and unique complaint number and rest of the total 20 per cent of the penalty would be given to him after recovery of the amount.
He clarified that the award would be calculated on the recovered amount of the assessed revenue loss to the Nigam due to the theft and not on the compounding amount.
