Bhopal: Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh on Thursday criticised attempts by the BJP government in Madhya Pradesh to change the process for electing presidents of Mandis.

In a statement, the Congress general secretary said that anger against the government was rising due to its anti-farmer policies and to escape from this, the State government was trying to change the process for electing presidents of Mandis.

"The Congress was totally opposed to this change," Digvijay said.

He appealed to the State Governor Ram Naresh Yadav not to sign the ordinance giving effect to the new system and demanded that elections for Mandi presidents should be held under the old system.
