“I have no hesitation in accepting my relationship with Amrita Rai. She and her husband have already filed a mutual consent divorce case,” Singh tweeted.

Singh's acknowledgement came a few days after his pictures with Amrita Rai were leaked on the Internet.

Confirming his relationship in the tweet, Singh condemned encroachment upon their private lives. “Once that is decided we would formalise it. But I do condemn encroachment in our private life,” he tweeted.

Meanwhile, Rai also confirmed her separation from her husband and added that she would later marry Digvijay Singh.

“I have separated from my husband and we have filed a mutual consent divorce papers. After which I have decided to marry with Digvijaya Singh,” Rai tweeted.

A video featuring Digvijay Singh and the journalist had gone viral on Tuesday and numerous hashtags such as #DigvijayaSinghExposed were trending on twitter.

Several posts questioning Digvijay Singh's relationship status went viral after the reports surfaced.
The Congress party has dissociated itself from the controversy, saying this video was morphed.

Singh’s tweet came on the day when polling is underway in seven states and two Union Territories in the seventh phase of 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

Singh has a son and three daughters from his late wife Asha. Asha passed away on February 27 last year at a private hospital in New Delhi after battling cancer for several years.
