Barrackpore (West Bengal): Union Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi on Sunday emphasized on raising funds for the safety operations of the Indian Railways.

“There is an immediate requirement to raise funds for the purpose,” the Union minister said after flagging off Sealdah-Puri Duronto Express, a new tri-weekly train and Barrackpore-Sealdah local train from his constituency.

He, however, refused to comment on the passenger fare hike issue by saying, “Mamata Banerjee has always worked for the people and I will follow her principles.”

He further assured to start trains from Barrackpore railway station directly to Bihar and Uttar Pradesh and develop the station parallel to Howrah and Sealdah junction.

Meanwhile, Union minister of state for shipping Mukul Roy on this occasion lashed out at erstwhile Left government for the deteriorating law and order situation in the state due to which the proposed Kanchrapara rail coach factory project came a cropper.

Trivedi further assured that work in Kanchrapara rail coach factory will start soon.
