Jaipur: More appalling facts have emerged about the torture and sexual exploitation of the physically challenged girls residing at Jaipur’s residential school run by an NGO, Awaaz Foundation. Investigations have revealed that several girls of the school were sent to politicians and bureaucrats.

Apart from this, the fresh information in this regard suggests that at least 13 girls were subjected to sexual harassment and torture there. Most of these girls are said to be presently at their respective native places to spend their summer vacation. Now the police are trying to approach the victims’ kin to uncover more facts in this case. The victims are believed to be between 14 to 18 years of age.

Recently it surfaced that the employees of Awaaz Foundation were sexually exploiting the disabled girls for past 10 months. It has also been learnt that a 17 year old girl was raped eight times.

On defying this gross act of exploitation, they were brutally tortured, assaulted and left starving for days. The students reported about their ordeal to Foundation Director Alpana Sharma but all their pleas to seek help fell on deaf ears as Sharma too misbehaved with them. Some of the victims became pregnant but they were forced by the accused to undergo abortion.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Shweta Dhankar said the girls were taken to Alpana Sharma’s residence as well where several politicians and officers used to visit. It was revealed during counseling of the victims that they were molested on Holi too on the pretext of putting colour on them. When the girls resisted, they were assaulted and subjected to harassment continuously since then.

Police Commissioner Biju George Joseph said that five persons have been arrested in this connection so far.
