Brezno (Slovakia): Indian duo of Sharmila Nicollet and Smriti Mehra started on a disappointing note at the Allianz Ladies Slovak Open golf tournament on the Ladies European Tour.

Sharmila, who is in her rookie year, carded an eight-over 80 while Smriti was one behind at 81.

Sharmila had just one birdie against seven bogeys and one double bogey, which placed her way down in the 99th spot.

Smriti had two birdies and just one bogey, but she also had two double and two triple bogeys.

Australian Bree Arthur and Lucie Andre of France shared the lead on three-under par 69 after the first round in hot and sunny weather yesterday. Both players are in their second season on the Ladies European Tour, aged 24, with a career-best tie for fourth and looking for their first victories.

Seven players were tied for third place just one shot back, including Scotland's Carly Booth, who claimed her maiden LET victory just over a month ago.

Joining Booth at two-under par 70 were Swedish duo Carin Koch and Maria Ohlsson, Thailand's Nontaya Srisawang, Italian Veronica Zorzi, Marjet Van Der Graaff from the Netherlands and Klara Spilkova of the Czech Republic.

English golfer of Indian origin Kiran Matharu and Sahra Hassan of Wales carded identical 75.
