New Delhi: Expressing serious concerns over the issue of brain drain, National Advisory Council (NAC) chairperson Sonia Gandhi said that the increasing trend of mass emigration of doctors is a colossal loss of the country.

Addressing medical students at the 39th convocation ceremony of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Wednesday, she said “The country is facing dearth of doctors.

About 60 percent of Indian doctors are working in private sectors in urban areas. In such a condition the migration to foreign nations is a serious threat to the health care system of the country.”

Dwelling at dismal health services in villages, the UPA chairperson called upon the young doctors to discharge to discharge their social responsibility by concentrating on healing in rural areas.

Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Ghulam Nabi Azad lauded the premiere health care institute for its yeoman services and assured that all necessary measures would be provided for upgrading AIIMS.
