Chandigarh: A Division Bench consisting of Justice SS Sharon and Justice Jora Singh would finally hear the much-highlighted Ruchika Gehrotra molestation case on December 6.

The bench would hear the case that has been filed demanding increase in the punishment of the accused and an assessment of the delay in dispensation of justice.

It is remarkable that this case has been pending in the court for the last five months as almost half of a dozen judges who had been assigned the task had recused themselves from hearing the case.

During the last hearing, which took place in March, Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice KS Ahluwalia had indicated towards settling the case during the next hearing and had asked for entire probe report and information regarding the case.

But matter couldn’t be settled since roster of judges changed during the intervening time period and Justice Surya Kant was dropped from the bench who declined to make a further hearing in the case.

Later on, the case was referred to another bench, but proceedings got stalled again.

In the meantime an organisation called World Human Rights Council, in a petition filed in Punjab and Haryana High Court, has demanded action against all those who had assisted ex-DGP.

Petitioners have also demanded action against the authorities of Sacred Heart School- the school in which Ruchika studied.

The CBI has put into questioning the working style of police and has asked as to why it failed to take appropriate action against DGP Rathore under Section-306 of IPC.

Petitioners has also asked Punjab and Haryana High Court to take action against ex –DGP Rathore and other officials for framing 11 false charges against Ruchika’s brother Ashu and mentally torturing him.

A request has also been made to issue a fresh directive in this regard so that those occupying important posts don’t get a free hand to torture common people and impress upon the entire gamut of probe.
