Lucknow: Following allegations of his misbehavior with an SP, the Divisional Commissioner of Basti Anurag Srivastav has temporarily been removed from office by the Election Commission.

Rural development commissioner Sanjeev Kumar has been appointed in place of Srivastav.

Earlier, the Election Commision’s decision to remove the SP and DM of Siddharth Nagar was faced with a stiff resistance from the IPS association. Over a dozen IPS officers had threatened to resign.

Divisional commissioner Srivastava had expressed displeasure over lack of coordination between Siddharth Nagar district magistrate V Chaitra and superintendent of police Mohit Gupta.

Srivastava in a meeting had allegedly used derogatory language against Gupta asking him to leave the hall.

Following the incident, the state government has constituted a two member committee, including Industrial Development Commissioner VN Garg and DG, Anti-corruption Arun Kumar to look into the matter.

"On a complaint lodged by IPS Association, the EC has sought an explanation from Srivastava," chief electoral officer of Uttar Pradesh Umesh Sinha said.

Sinha said, “Explanation has been sought on two points - using indecent language and asking an IPS officer to leave the meeting hall. Srivastava has been transferred and will be given non-electoral duties.”
