New Delhi: In a bid to get his daughter Kanimozhi out of Tihar jail, DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi is all set to sacrifice his party colleague and former telecom minister A Raja by putting the entire blame of the blatant loot of public money through illegal allocation of 2G spectrum on the latter.

Playing the role of an emotional and depressed father, the former chief minister of Tamil Nadu has even started invoking his longtime relationship with the Congress and has started creating pressure on the UPA government to loosen the noose around Kanimozhi’s neck.

In that context, the DMK representatives are very unlikely to attend the dinner hosted by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to mark the completion of UPA-2’s two years in office.

DMK as a party is also a divided house on the issue of its status a coalition partner in UPA after Kanimozhi’s arrest.

According to sources, a section of DMK is of the view that the party must pull out of the government and give outside support to UPA government. However, Karunanidhi after losing power in Tamil Nadu intends to solve the crisis by using his relationships and repute instead of taking a tough political stand.

Moreover, the DMK is trying its level best to portray Kanimozhi as a victim of political excess apart from trying to sell the argument that there is no concrete evidence against Kanimozhi apart from her taped conversation with Nira Radia about the appointment of Raja as Telecom Minister.

Karunanidhi has also sent an emotional appeal to the Central government and the Congress high command.

While the Congress has distanced itself from the entire issue saying it was a sub-judice matter, there are signals that the prosecution can soften its stand on Kanimozhi in the court in coming days.
