New Delhi: Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Chairman E Sreedharan, fondly known as Metro man, has put an end to speculations of continuing with his post.

As the tenure of Sreedharan will end on December 31, the Metro Rail Corporation published an advertisement for the post of MD on its website on Monday evening.

Sreedharan has been the Managing Director of the DMRC since 1997. He has played pivotal role in expanding metro to 190 kilometres with six running metro lines within eight years.

The draft of three phases of metro has been prepared by him. 78-year-old Sreedharan shot off letter to the Delhi government in May to find his replacement.

As per the advertisement, the new MD will join the office from January 1, 2012, who will be fully responsible for the operations for Delhi Metro.

The new MD will face the challenge of completing third phase of Delhi Metro within the stipulated time as well as to prepare the draft of fourth phase of the metro operations.
