Ferozepur: The DMU train services between Sopore and Baramulla, which were hit last year after a terrorist attack, will commence again from June 13. The preparations for the same are near completion.

Notably, in July last year, terrorists had struck the Sopore Railway station twice within three days. On the night of July 29, 2010, terrorists had struck for the first time and attacked several passengers. Not satisfied, the terrorists again attacked the Railway station a day after and set the railway station on fire.

The terrorists even uprooted several kms of railway line and destroyed the signal system thus disrupting the railway services for a year leading to a total loss of Rs 7 crore.

According to Ferozepur railway division DRM Vishwesh Chaubey, taking in view the terrorist attacks and safety of the passengers, the DMU train services were cancelled ever since.

“Now, after complete renovation of the tracks and the station, railways have decided to restart the train services, which will commence from June 13,” Chaubey said.

Chaubey informed that special emphasis has been laid on security as the region is a prominent terror zone and armed forces have been deployed to monitor any kind of terrorist activities in the region.
