Mumbai: Stepping out for Ganpati Darshan? ... Mind your dress before doing so. Yes, the devotees will have to follow strict dress code while visiting “Anderi ke Raja” during the upcoming Ganpati festival. The Mandal has restricted the devotees of wearing shorts, skirts and all sorts of dresses which are above the knee. It is the first Mandal in Maharashtra which has imposed a dress code for Ganpati festival.

Uday Salian, spokesperson for the Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav mandal, said, “This was a unanimous decision taken by the committee. The devotees will have to follow the dress code while coming to this holy place. He also added that each and every devotee over the age of 13 whether male or female, will have to follow the dress code. If any devotee is found violating the dress code, he/she will be stopped from entering the pandal.”

He also added, “During last couple of years, the devotees with their ‘revealing clothes’ created an unpleasant environment in pandals. The other devotees get distracted because of such people. People from the surrounding areas supported the move of imposing dress code.”

It is also interesting to note that approximately 20 lakh devotees visit the Andheri mandal during the Ganpati festival including the celebrities. Legendary freedom fighter Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak started this festival in 1894.
