Bhopal: Police on Thursday arrested driver of slain Journalist Chandrika Rai for allegedly murdering the latter and his family on February 18 in Umaria town.

Special Task Force which is probing the case arrested driver Ramesh Yadav on the basis of circumstantial evidences.

“Just after the murder of Chandrika and his family members, Ramesh stole gold ornaments, half-Kg of silver and Rs.22, 000 cash from the scribe’s house,”Police told media persons here.

Police zeroed in on Ramesh while he made a transaction of Rs.3000 from Chandrika’s ATM card.

“Ramesh got hold of Chandrika’s ATM password from his diary while lifting valuables from the cupboard of the journalist,” Police said.

According to the Police, Ramesh spent all the stolen money on his brother’s marriage and had been trying to loot Chandrika’s house for long owing to his bad financial condition.

Earlier, Police claimed to have cracked the case by arresting Chandrika’s neighbour Amit Singh and Homeguard Vidyaniwas Tiwari who are also accused of kidnapping Anant, son of a PWD officer. The Police contented that Amit and Vidyaniwas may have executed the murder as Chandrika was allegedly blackmailing them.

But “their statements made the case more complex,” Police said.

Meanwhile, Police have decided to conduct Narco analysis test on both the accused which according to them would solve the Murder case of Chandrika and his family.

Chandrika Rai (42), wife Durga Rai (40), son Jalaj (19) and daughter Nisha (14) were found lying in pool of blood in different rooms of the family's house on February 18.
