Fazilka: After the falling flat of ‘Parho Punjab’ in Punjab, the Centre’s flagship programme Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan has also received a major setback in the state.

Punjab government on Monday has given orders to send the teachers back to schools. They were earlier deputed as District Resource persons (DRP) and Block Resource Persons (BRP) to carry out major tasks in seven components under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan.

Earlier, Coordinators, Block Master Trainer (BMT) and Cluster Master Trainer (CMT) functioning under ‘Parho Punjab’ scheme returned to schools.

Notably, district level DRP and BRP on Block level were appointed for primary and secondary division under the Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan for various reforms programmes like inclusive education for disabled, education guaranty scheme, management information system, civil works, girl education, planning and providing books to the children in schools.

Under the scheme, one DRP and two to three assistant DRPs were appointed on district level and seven BRPs were deputed on block level to run all the components in each district but sadly the aforesaid BRPs could not be recruited in four years.

Instead, only five BRPs were looking after all the blocks. Almost 800 DRPs and BRPs were performing their duties in primary and secondary divisions of the state. Out of which, 400 DRPs and BRPs were sent back to school by the Education Department.
