Amritsar: The BSF seized 12 kg of heroin (drug) valued at Rs 60 crore in international market and 21 live cartridges of AK 47 assault rifle after a brief exchange of gunfire at Indo-Pak border post when the consignment of the contraband was being smuggled to India from Pakistan.

BSF officials said here on Tuesday that the seizure of drug, arms and ammunition was made midnight last night by a night patrolling team of the border guards.

The team noticed suspicious movements at Fatehpur Post, following which additional troops of BSF rushed to the spot.

Smugglers from Pakistan side fired two rounds of gun shots on being challenged by BSF, following which they retaliated.

However, Pakistani smugglers managed to run away under the cover of darkness and standing crop in agriculture fields.

When the Pakistani smugglers stopped firing, a special search operation was carried out which led to the recovery of heroin, one automatic pistol, 6 live cartridges and 21 cartridges of AK-47 from the spot.
