New Delhi: Despite all the safety measures taken by the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) to avoid road mishaps, the corporation happens to pay compensation to relatives of the road accident victims with an amount ranging in lakhs of rupees annually.

Aiming to reduce the number of accidents, DTC conducts workshops for drivers and conductors from time to time. The corporation is also conducting Operation Suraksha and has adopted other measures in order to avoid road mishap.

DTC Chairman and Managing Director Vijay Kumar Dev said that the number of accident has gone down by 0.02 percent comparing to the previous year.

At present, the total number of buses in DTC fleet is 6190.

The new drivers recruited for low floor buses are not fully aware of road routes and they do lack road sense. To check this problem, DTC has planned to train them.
