Srinagar: Earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale hits Jammu and Kashmir early on Saturday morning. The epicentre of the tremor was in Hindukush region of Afghanistan.

"An earthquake of 5.2 magnitude was experienced at 9.46 am in Kashmir Valley," Aamir Ali, coordinator of Natural Disaster Management Cell said.

Media reports said that the tremors were felt for about three seconds and the residents of the region rushed out of their homes.

Tremors were also felt in Pakistan's northwest Chitral, Malakand and other adjoining areas.

However, there were no reports of causalities or damage so far. This is the second tremor to shake the valley this month.

Earlier on March 12, a moderate intensity quake was experienced in the Valley.

Earlier media reports had claimed that the Earth could be headed for a big showdown within a few days following huge storms, earthquakes, volcanoes and other natural disasters.
