The Indian fan base club has tied up with Slice of Heaven which "specialises" in baked items besides serving continental delights to come up with 'East Bengal Cafe Lounge' which will be opened at the club tent.

"It's going to be a history in the making in Indian football by launching the first sports cafe by a club. It's a way to thank the millions of hardcore fans and bring them together on the table," Anshuman Agarwal, owner of the cafe which has an outlet in Elgin Road, told PTI.

East Bengal are known for their culinary delicacies with their signature dish Hilsa but he chose to keep the menu a surprise.

"We'll serve the best of dishes in an ambience that would make the fans feel eating inside the ground. We'll serve mixed cuisine with Mexican and Italian dishes and bakery products and there're a lot many surprises in store."

The best part for the fans would be the food will be available from Rs 30 onwards, he said adding the cafe would be open seven days a week from 9am to 8pm.

Besides serving food the club will also give their fans a chance to get up close with their football heroes running a series of promotional activities.

"I'm sure by this many youngsters will get inspired which is a way of giving something back to the sport."

The idea for a sports cafe has been imported from hugely popular English Premier League club Manchester United which has its official eating outlets in cities like Mumbai and Bangalore.

Keeping his fingers crossed, East Bengal General Secretary Kalyan Majumdar said "We've been thinking about this for a long time, finally it got materialised. We'll look for the response and look to branch out in due course.
