Kanpur/ Devariya: A day after the Election Commission enforced model code of conduct in Uttar Pradesh in the wake of  Assembly elections next year, the election authorities have tightened the vigilance in order to avert any form of electoral malpractices in the state.

The authorities on Sunday halted the election rally of BSP candidate Sanjay Singh on charges of violating the model code of conduct for elections.

Singh was addressing a public rally from an open vehicle which is violation of the code of conduct set by the EC. He, however, was further allowed to proceed with his campaign after he agreed to use jeep for the purpose.

The violation of model code of conduct is a common practice in the states during and prior to elections.

Notably, the day when the EC announced the model code of conduct with immediate effect in the five states going to elections next year, Minister of State for Sports Ayodhya Prasad Pal, who is already facing Lokayukta probe, had also been found engaged in another irregularity.

Sources said that the minster had inaugurated a water tank before it received approval from the Water Board. However, no action has been taken in this regard so far.
