Dehradun: A team of Election Commission officials led by Chief Election Commissioner SY Quraishi arrived here on Thursday to review the election preparedness in Uttarakhand. The officials also held discussions with leaders of several political parties, including BJP, Congress and Uttrakhand Kranti Dal (UKD).

On Friday, the EC team will meet State Chief Secretary, the GDP, Commissioners, District Magistrates and SP of several districts to review the election process.

Meanwhile, the two presidents of Uttarakhand Kranti Dal (UKD), Diwakar Bhatt and Trivendra Pawar accused each other of splitting the party. The leaders formed their own party after some differences and named them as Uttarakhand Kranti Dal-Diwakar faction and Uttarakhand Kranti Dal-Pawar faction respectively.

The Diwakar faction announced that his part y will contest the state assembly polls in alliance with the BJP. Trivendra Pawar lashed out at both Congress and BJP for creating a rift in the party.

Meanwhile, the Congress accused the ruling BJP of breaching the Model Code of Conduct for purchasing power at a higher rate for the state.

The BSP has also increased its election activities. UP’s Transport Minister and Uttarakhand in-charge Ramachal and Cooperative Minister Daddu Prasad visited the party functionaries in Udham Singh Nagar district. The party has also started door to door campaign.

Meanwhile, the administration has filed a case against BJP and BSP leaders for defacing public property in Kotdwar area of Pauri district.

Sector Magistrates have been deployed in Pithoragarh district in Kumaon region.

In Didihat, the officials held a meeting with activists of the political parties for making them aware of the Election Commission directives.

In Almora, district authorities gave training to officials for operating Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) during election duty. The Almora District Magistrate took a meeting of senior officials and instructed them to make all election related arrangements on time.
