New Delhi: Despite the heavy snowfall and bone-chilling cold adversely affecting the election campaigns in Uttarakhand, the Election Commission is in no mood to postpone the election dates in the state in a hurry.

According to the sources, the Commission, keeping its decision on hold, wants to monitor the weather condition first and then take the decision accordingly.

Notably, the major stumbling block behind the changing of dates is the recent postponement of the poll dates in Uttar Pradesh in view of the festivals.

It is becoming difficult for the Commission to shift the dates for elections in the Himalayan state beyond January 30 as the UP elections have been recently re-scheduled to take place on February.

The EC held a joint meeting with the electoral officials and officials from the weather department in this regard.
