New Delhi: As part of poll preparations ahead of the assembly elections in five states, the Election Commission on Friday will hold talks with Union Home Secretary to discuss the availability of sufficient paramilitary forces to conduct election exercise. 

Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Manipur, Punjab and Goa are scheduled to go to polls in 2012. The meeting between EC and Home Secretary is being considered as final one ahead of the polls.

According to sources, the election dates for the five states are likely to be announced on the coming Saturday.

Notably, the Home Secretary in a meeting with EC officials two months back had assured to provide 700-800 companies of paramilitary forces to the election body for the smooth conduct of the poll exercise.

Two-day back the EC officials held a meeting with UP state election officials seeking information on the poll preparedness.

On Wednesday, the EC held a meeting with Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) officials and requested them to keep an on the polling expenditure in the five poll-bound states.
